Ten Commandments Part 19

We have come to the end of our study  on the Ten Commandments.  Hopefully you have found these articles valuable and have caught a glimpse of how following them can free you from becoming enslaved to sin.  We have seen that they are much broader than their short phrases might suggest.  Following them can assist us in avoiding sliding down the slippery slope into sin.  Sin often begins with the evil thoughts of the mind, proceeds to complacency and acceptance of those thoughts, and ends with the resolution of our will to do those sinful acts we have thought about.

We have also seen how the Ten Commandments can promote human flourishing.  They provide us with a predictability of how we should act in the body of Christ towards each other.  Following them is good for society.  In this they can become a rallying point for a world gone awry.

We find ourselves today forced to answer the questions “What kind of society do I wish to live in?  Is it one where theft, murder, adultery, lying etc. are the norm, or do I want something better?”  Yet these sins characterize the society in which we find ourselves living.  It has been observed that in the history of the church the Ten Commandments have been found to be most meaningful during times of upheaval and chaos.  May we find this true again in our day.
